Why spend money? Use these recipes to make homemade cleaning products that do the same job – for less!
I love homemade cleaning products because they are cheaper and more environment-friendly than store-bought options. They are also surprisingly easy to make, effective and safe for the kids. Here are 7 homemade cleaning products you can make with simple ingredients that most of us already have in the house.
1. Glass Cleaner (For Windows & Mirrors)
Combine 2 cups water, 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol, 1-2 drops orange essential oil into a spray bottle. To use, spray on soft cloth or paper towel first before wiping glass surface.
2. Dish Soap
Heat 1 3/4 cup water until boiling. In a medium bowl, combine 1 tbsp borax and 1 tbsp grated bar soap, and pour boiling water over mixture. Whisk together until soap is all melted. Let cool on countertop for 6-8 hours, stir occasionally. Transfer to a squirt bottle to use.
3. Laundry Detergent
Grate a bar of soap until finely ground. In a large bowl, mix 2 parts washing soda, 2 parts borax, and 1 part grated soap. Store in closed container, use 1/8 to 1/4 cup per load of laundry.
4. All-Purpose Surface Cleaner
Simply mix together equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
5. Clothing Stain Remover
Mix together 1 part blue dawn dishwashing liquid and 2 parts hydrogen peroxide. Place directly on stain and launder as usual.
6. Oven Cleaner
Mix together 2 cups hot water, 1 tbs natural dish liquid, and 1 tsp borax. Place in spray bottle. To use, spray the oven, let sit 20 minutes, and wipe off with clean cloth.
7. Tile Cleaner
Place 1/2 cup baking soda in a bowl, and slowly pour in liquid soap until mixture has look and consistency of frosting. Add 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil scent. To use, add to sponge, scrub surface, and rinse off.
